The name Wikitoria came up with the Maori term for victory.

Our batik workings are primarily done by the women in Sri Lanka. Every design in our first collection are influenced by

New Zealand Harakeke/ Flax plant and we honour the Maori women who weave flax leaves into baskets, fishing nets and other creative crafts. Therefore, Wikitoria empower women throughout our journey.

Piumi Perera

Founder & MD

Piumi is a devoted mother to her two children and a passionate Biology teacher deeply connected to nature. Her journey into the batik industry began in her childhood, amidst the vibrant culture of her Sri Lankan village where women practiced the traditional art of handmade batik. Witnessing the awe-inspiring masterpieces crafted by these talented artisans fueled her own fascination and creativity.

Even within her own home in Sri Lanka, batik designs adorned their surroundings on a modest scale. Upon migrating to New Zealand three years ago, Piumi recognized an opportunity to introduce the beauty of Sri Lankan batik to her new community. Building a loyal customer base, she sensed the potential for growth and evolution.

After three years of successful business, Piumi discerned a gap in the market, feeling that the existing designs didn't fully resonate with the style and climate of New Zealand. Motivated by this realization, she embarked on a journey of rebranding and reinvention, aiming to infuse Wikitoria with a fresh perspective tailored to suit the unique tastes and lifestyle of the New Zealand fashion scene.
